Development of a Pilates Studio

More and more people want to take care not only of their bodies but also of their minds – which is why the popularity of disciplines that combine care for both, such as Pilates and yoga, continues to grow. This is good news for those who love Pilates and want to turn their passion into a business. Especially since intimate studios are becoming increasingly popular.

However, simply opening a studio is not enough – for the studio to grow and be profitable, continuous investment is necessary – and in many aspects. In a few steps, we will present to you what is worth taking care of and what is good to pay attention to.

Opening a Studio… and What’s Next?

Opening a studio is just the beginning. Once you have navigated all the challenges related to designing, equipping, and financing the studio, it’s time to promote it properly.
The challenge for every new studio is to attract new clients and retain existing ones. The foundation is to build a recognizable brand that will attract people interested in Pilates. Be sure to create a website, an Instagram account, and a Facebook fan page – these are the basic communication channels with clients. Through them, you can post information about the studio, your offerings, class updates, or information about promotions or open days.

To build a community around your brand, start by focusing on people you know and relevant interest groups in your area. Encourage friends to share your posts and spread the word about the new studio with their acquaintances. Network, build relationships, and gather sign-ups – all of this will help you create a strong community around your brand. Don’t forget to prepare flyers and business cards as well.

Remember that the competition is fierce – the fitness class market is vast, so it’s important to stand out amidst the growing competition. To attract the attention of potential clients, you need to be innovative, creative, and engaged. Interesting studio equipment, attractive workouts, a good offering, and the introduction of fresh ideas are the keys to success.

Enhancing Workouts

Even a small Pilates studio can create interesting, engaging, and fun classes on the mat and on machines by using additional accessories. When expanding the studio with new accessories, pay attention to their quality – choose only products from trusted brands, made of durable materials. Such accessories will never disappoint you and your clients – they guarantee the necessary durability, reliable performance, and proven effectiveness.

  • Pilates Circle
This is a small, lightweight resistance ring for Pilates that works perfectly for studio training. It offers unlimited possibilities for diversifying group and personal workouts. It allows for a full-body workout, especially for the arms and legs. It can be used both on the mat and on the reformer.
  • Weights
Wrist and ankle weights are a small investment. They are useful in any studio to increase the intensity of exercises. They help achieve desired results faster and more effectively than during regular training. It’s good to equip the studio with several types of weights of different weights. It’s worth mentioning that weights were used by Joseph Pilates himself, the creator of the method.
  • Spinefitter
This is a unique exercise and massage device consisting of 28 hard, interconnected balls. It provides deep, targeted pressure and causes relaxation of the muscles around the spine, neck, and shoulder girdle. It works great for people suffering from spine problems. It will be an excellent complement to exercises both on the mat and on the reformer.
  • OOV

  • Resistance Bands
Resistance bands of varying resistance levels are an easy and accessible way to increase strength, endurance, and coordination. For example, the SISSEL Fitband – a band available in 4 resistance levels for progressive training – works great here.
  • C-shaper
This popular device supports work on the mat and reformer. It ensures proper body stabilization, engaging the abdominal and spinal muscles. It is an excellent aid and support for trainers working with beginner clients, as it enforces proper body posture.
  • SmartBell

  • Rotator Disc
This name refers to a rotating disc that is perfect for improving balance, core endurance, joint stability, and more. It comes in two versions – traditional and with spring resistance.
  • Sensorimotor Discs
They are used for balance, coordination, and strength training. They wonderfully strengthen the muscles of the entire body. For example, Sissel Balancefit works great here.
  • Pilates Ball
Pilates balls come in various sizes and are among the most popular and easily accessible Pilates equipment. They challenge the stability of the reformer and make classic, essential exercises more interesting and enjoyable.

Diverse Offerings

Another thing that will help you attract clients to your studio is a diverse offering targeted at specific groups. Offering specialized classes that can encourage new audiences will set your studio apart from other clubs and make it a unique, attractive place.

Consider which groups you want to attract to your studio and create individual offerings accordingly – e.g., Pilates for moms with children, Pilates for men, Pilates for pregnant women, Pilates for athletes, Pilates for seniors, HIIT Pilates. Such diversity will give your clients choices and allow them to feel more confident in a new group where they will meet similar individuals with shared needs and expectations. It will also facilitate effective class management.

It is also worth introducing online training to your offerings – both paid and free. Free online training is an excellent way to promote your studio, encourage clients to take advantage of your offerings, and show them what they can expect. Paid training conducted online will help you reach clients who live further away, have transportation issues, or simply prefer to exercise at home.

Enhancing Team Qualifications

Continuous training and enhancing the qualifications of trainers is essential to prevent boredom in the studio. Workshops and participation in industry conferences help gain new, fresh ideas and keep your finger on the pulse. Thanks to them, you know exactly what is currently happening in the industry and what is trending.

Training, in addition to providing essential knowledge, also gives you the opportunity to better understand the machines you use in your studio. Knowing their full functionality allows you to design classes better and make them more attractive.

To ensure your studio always provides the highest level of services, also focus on collaborating with other specialists, such as physiotherapists. Their involvement will also allow you to open up to clients with special needs, such as those suffering from musculoskeletal diseases or individuals recovering from surgeries during rehabilitation.

Building Relationships with Clients

Creating and developing bonds with clients is fundamental when building a new brand. To establish a relationship and stay close to your audience, utilize various channels – social media, maintaining a blog with interesting and inspiring articles, a YouTube channel with short instructional videos showcasing your studio and its offerings. Use these tools to promote your studio and make it recognizable.

Introducing loyalty programs, referral programs, and rewarding your most loyal clients is a good idea. Giving something “for free” is, contrary to appearances, a very effective way to increase your earnings. This is due to the principle of reciprocity – one of the social and psychological principles described by psychology professor Robert B. Cialdini. In short, it means that we reciprocate for what we have received from someone. When you give something for free, the likelihood increases that the client will invest and stay with you longer. Through freebies, you build relationships, loyalty, and increase trust.

Don’t forget to listen to feedback and understand client expectations. This approach will help better tailor your studio’s offerings. It’s important to embrace humility, even in the face of criticism – this attitude shows your positive approach to the client and helps you maintain your reputation even in crisis situations.

Remember that there is a good chance that a satisfied client will bring more interested individuals to the studio. Word-of-mouth marketing is one of the best forms of promotion – people are more likely to trust positive opinions from their friends about a service they have used than, for example, advertisements. It is also worth utilizing the internet, which greatly facilitates the exchange of opinions and recommendations, such as asking friends and regular clients to share your posts and leave reviews and recommendations.
