Location and Studio Pilates Plan
Location of the Pilates Studio
The cost of renting or purchasing a property on credit is one of the highest expenses you will incur each month. However, it is worth remembering that a location designated for a Pilates studio with equipment does not have to be in a prominent, and therefore expensive, place, such as on the main street in the city center. Thriving Pilates studios are emerging in almost every location – the key factors for their attractiveness and ability to attract clients are professional trainers, safe equipment, and the methods used. Moreover, due to the fact that there are still relatively few studios offering Pilates exercises on machines, clients travel to them even from afar, from distant neighborhoods or other towns. Before making a decision about choosing a location, it is important to pay special attention to ease of access and ensuring parking spaces in the immediate vicinity of the location that your clients can use.
Spaces within a fitness club, gym, yoga school, or sports center are excellent for adapting into a Pilates studio with machines. If you specialize in physiotherapy and Pilates machines will assist your patients in their faster recovery and full functionality, you might also consider opening a studio within a medical center, clinic, or other healthcare facility.
However, your Pilates studio can primarily be located in a classic service premises, which does not have to be in a prominent location but can be situated away from the street or deep within a residential area. Even a converted apartment can work, giving the studio an intimate character that your clients will appreciate. Also, pay attention to providing them with comfort and privacy during exercises – the training room should be shielded from the view of neighbors or passersby. Consider whether this will be possible in the chosen location without simultaneously hindering access to natural light. Also, avoid noisy neighbors that could cause discomfort and hinder concentration during exercises.

Pilates Studio – Small or Large?
The size of the Pilates studio depends on what classes you want to conduct there. If you want to focus on individual exercises and work solely on the reformer and chair, a room of about 20 m² will be sufficient. However, if you are thinking about small group classes, you should choose a space at least twice as large. Pay attention to ensure that after setting up the equipment, there is still enough space for free and safe movement. Also, create an attractive space for storing additional exercise equipment – rollers, mats, Pilates circles.
In addition to the exercise room, the studio should also have a space for comfortable changing and preparing for exercises, as well as storage for clients’ belongings during training, a bathroom, and a reception area with a comfortable corner for clients waiting for their classes.

Create the Right Atmosphere in Your Studio
Remember that the success of your studio will depend on many factors – excellent equipment, great instructors, interesting classes, but don’t forget to create a suitable Body&Mind atmosphere for the practitioners. Creating a comfortable, relaxing environment that facilitates focus will allow clients to fully experience the benefits of Pilates for both body and mind. When arranging the studio’s interior, pay special attention to subdued, slightly dim lighting with a warm hue that will not be glaring during exercises. Consider using side lighting or standing floor lamps instead of recessed spotlights. Choose accessories and decorations that will add warmth and coziness to the interior.
Unlike fitness classes, where the temperature is lowered, Pilates sessions should take place in warmth. It is also important to avoid temperature fluctuations. Therefore, it is worth ensuring solutions that will maintain a constant temperature in the studio, without intense airflow.
In your studio, also take care of the appropriate musical setting – install good quality sound systems and select music that allows for concentration and relaxation.
