Who Should Not Practice Pilates?

Pilates is a type of training that is gaining significant popularity today among adults, seniors, and youth alike. Almost anyone can practice Pilates; however, in some cases, this type of sport is prohibited. When is it not advisable to practice Pilates?

Prohibited Pilates

Pilates training is a form of sport valued by a large number of people, regardless of age, gender, or physical condition. However, there is a group of individuals who cannot train in Pilates. These are often people who are dealing with ailments, have recently suffered an injury or trauma, or have chronic illnesses. In these cases, before you start practicing Pilates, you should consult with a doctor or specialist. This way, we can ensure that such training is appropriate for us.

Certainly, pregnant women must be cautious when practicing Pilates. You should discuss your pregnancy with your doctor and also inform your instructor. The doctor should check your condition and whether your health allows for the execution of a given set of exercises. The instructor will select appropriate exercises and ensure the safety of both the future mother and her child.

Who Should Avoid Pilates?

Pilates training is ideal for many of us because it improves our posture, makes the waist flexible, and flattens the stomach. Additionally, Pilates is also a way to regain good fitness and well-being. However, Pilates is not the ideal sport for everyone, despite its many advantages and benefits.

There are contraindications that prevent us from practicing Pilates. These include:

  • unstable blood pressure,
  • risk of blood clots,
  • inflammatory conditions,
  • spondylolisthesis,
  • fractures,
  • recent injuries,
  • surgical procedures,
  • osteoporosis,
  • herniated discs,
  • pregnancy.

If we have any concerns about whether we can practice Pilates, we should seek advice from a doctor. This way, we will not expose ourselves to additional health problems.
