Control and Concentration
Control and Precision
In Pilates
Control and precision are direct byproducts of the connection between a strong body and mind, achieved through Pilates exercises. They do not focus on a high number of repetitions, but rather on the proper technique of performing exercises to achieve safe and effective results. This truly allows you to stay in tune with the biomechanics of your body.
In Daily Life
Many injuries occur due to improper or unstable movements made during basic activities. Have you ever tried to put an unhappy two-year-old into a car seat? Twisting and screaming between the straps, we try to manage and seat the child – it’s no wonder many of us end up with strained backs.
Applying the principles of control and precision will help you perform such movements more effectively and with less strain on your body. This applies, of course, to all other daily activities – such as bending down, tearing pages from a newspaper, taking out the trash, or putting away groceries.
Concentration
In Pilates
If breathing is the physical key to achieving awareness of the mind and body, then concentration is the mental key. Concentration can be considered as the conscious control of movement or exercises that simultaneously increase body awareness. Proper concentration allows you to perform as many repetitions of Pilates movements as possible while focusing on other variables, such as being in the right position, keeping your arms in the correct place, or ensuring that your spine is in good condition.
In Daily Life
By using concentration to strengthen the mind-body connection, you become more aware of where your body is and what is physically happening around you. This leads to more balanced, graceful movements and reactions.
Let’s say you are standing in a crowded bus or in a shopping mall filled with shoppers. Achieving that inner focus amidst such chaos will influence your outer movement. You will find that you are able to withstand the bumps and jolts of the vehicle and navigate among the other shoppers without being pushed around. Our users continue to confirm this and can list many similar examples.
